Playoff Watching... Yawn!

Is there any greater waste of time than watching hockey? Especially at playoffs time? (Okay - I don't really want anybody to answer that!)

Each spring, I actually find a million reasons not to watch - wasting one's time can be done a myriad other ways; you all know that! Less stressful ways and far more intelligent ways, too! The traditional hockey spring-time "tournament" (Europeans tend to refer to the playoffs that way) can be a taxing experience anyways - on one's nerves, that is. Especially when you are not a player...!

And, so far, this hockey spring, to quote a certain Stinger: "the only that is for sure is that nothing is for sure!"

The best goaltender in the world today, allegedly - Buffalo's Ryan Miller - was supposed to carry his team to the promised land... Right! Buff-a-loooow went nowhere at all, losing in the very first round, and nearly in four straight too - and their masterful goalkeeper wasn't impressing the reputed-to-be offensively lacking Boston Bruins, who became once more their scoring-machine selves in the process of solving him in six games!

The so-called Hockeytown, Detroit, had all the trouble in the world getting past their first-round opponent, the upstart Phoenix Coyotes, who by all means DESERVED to win much more than the Red Wings did! What's more, the Wings looked fuzzy all season long, then they barely got into position for a playoff berth and then they disappointed even the octopi that are abused in their lousy building! And THAT is "hockeytown" they say? I don't think so!

The worst of all has to be Washington though: the league-leading offensive juggernaut, the best team in the entire NHL, and they failed to move past a single opponent. Truly pathetic. How could that have happened?!? WHAT happened, in fact? Any ideas, Boudreau? Ovie? Whatsisname on the defense - Green, is it? Maybe he really is, green, indeed! Maybe that is the problem - or one of them at least! And, maybe, this video will shed some light on all this, disastrous performance and unfulfilled high expectations included - but I doubt it, somehow:

They should have asked for the playoffs to be real, real late this year, instead - right, Alvin? Never mind now...

Maybe this next vid will shed more light on all this nonsense...?

Let's just call the whole thing off and flick the channel already - even infomercials are a better way to completely waste one's time than THIS...!

Still...

I would be remiss if I didn't add that, NOW, as of May 2010, Penguins and especially Capitals fans KNOW what it is to be a Boston Bruins fan and what it is to KNOW, without a shadow of a doubt, that your team is superior to the pesky Habitants - and yet to find difficulty in confirming that on the ice against them! The Montreal Canadiens have some sort of mystique indeed (I suspect voodoo practices or outright witchcraft, of course) that allows them to have, time and time again, some sort of success when they should, logically, be decimated by the sheer overwhelming superiority of their competition. The Boston Bruins saw this first hand, back in the 70s and again some five years ago - and now, finally, two other franchises have felt it, very bitterly indeed... To lose to the Canadiens in these circumstances is the most distasteful experience of all: for you know that you should have WON, yet didn't. You know that you lost for all the WRONG reasons; due to some intangible impediment that shouldn't even BE - and that is the apex of frustration right there. At least the Boston Bruins of 2009 destroyed the Canadiens in four straight games - that was a nice restoration of the proper order of things then, but not nearly enough still, somehow... The poor Capitals will likely never have a chance to do that. Granted, the Bruins have a much longer history of having had to deal with this bane of pro-sports that is the "CH"...! And some actually think that the "evil empire" of Major League Baseball is actually the worst that it gets - HA! How little they know... The damn Yankees' tricks are mere pre-school hocus-pocus in comparison - but I am digressing here...

Alexander Ovechkin can feel like a true man now, though: for he lived through what Cam "The Man" Neely lived through in 1987, when he was emerging as a superstar and still saw his Bruins team lose four close games to the wretched CH in the first round of the playoffs. Of course, the next year, Neely was instrumental (along with a few other key figures: Kasper, Linseman, Bourque, Lemelin, Burridge) in defeating the Habs in five games (or, as the local press would say there, "en cinq petites parties" - EH)

Most impressive, though, was the fact that the Boston Bruins first swept the Habs in 1992 - when their line-up was missing Neely, Bourque, Kasper and even Linseman! When the Bruins swept the Habs in 2009, I wasn't surprised (even though everybody else was - seemingly - they were being idiotic, pure and simple, for the B's were the best team in the East, after all...!) But when the B's stung like a killer and wiped out the Habs in four straight in 1992, even I was surprised, I'll admit - not to mention immensely pleased, of course! It was, indeed, such an incredible feeling, to see Davids triumph so decisively over that overrated bunch of alleged Goliaths...! And to do so when it is not expected at all; that's an added rush, for sure! But that is digression, once more... aye!

Let's just carry on with the lackadaisical theme here and lazily watch this to summarize what watching playoff hockey is all about.... EH

And, oh yeah...
I would be remiss if I didn't add this...

I even almost, ALMOST, felt bad for the Detroit Red Wings when they finally lost to the San Jose Sharks, in the playoffs, after years of always besting them...

But then I was reminded of certain things; and I say, you had it coming, Wings!

You never had any class - the evidence:

So you lost - and are sore losers since way back then too.
Yzerman... Yawn!
You deserved to lose!!! And hopefully you'll lose plenty more, too...

So - YAWN.
And ditto for the playoffs overall!

Let's get ready to slumber!
