The King Lives - So Sayeth The Prince! ;)
Back in 2004, some baseball's fan crazed wife started spreading the rumor that notable Boston Red Sox fanatic (and even more notable is he as a scribe/wordsmith/storyteller) -the one and only Stephen King- was dead...? This was in the middle of the summer too - the summer that would lead to the fall in which the Red Sox would stage the COMEBACK OF THE CENTURY to defeat the New York Yankees and subsequently finally claim back the World Championship! Stephen King would be there, on a front row seat, every step of the way (ok, so were Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon to shoot a silly little film - but that is not the point right now...!)
The fanboy's wife's misinformed tip was my cue to verse luminous - on the message boards, once more...! Read on and behold the luminescence...! ;)

Stephen King?
=====================
My wife just told me that the creepiest member of the RS nation is either very ill or already deceased, can anyone at fanhome shed some light on this or squash the rumor?

Stephen King is alive, he almost died when he was hit by a car but is alive.

And that was about 4-5 years ago IIRC.
I havn't heard anything, he was interviewed at a Red Sox game about a month ago...

Stephen King will never die - the oozing forces that reside inside the Green Monster have a hold on him that keep him, and countless more Bostonians, subjugated season after season, heartbreak after heartbreak, year after year, until the day the dark forces of "the curse" are finally overcome once and for all...!!!
It's all in the book really...
No, not Mr.King's latest mammoth-sized 500+ page-brick... Rather MY book - working title is: ''The Green Monster That Ate Boston - aka Beantown - And Got Gas For All Its Trouble''
Ok - I think it needs work too...
Now I hope somebody will draw some of Mr.King's attention to this - I am in need of him as a mentor and, in the land of my ancestors, ancient legends have it that a mage can pass on, in his living days, all of his uncanny powers to a worthy if as of yet unproven successor... I must be it!!!
Thank you very much
(as the OTHER king would say ...)

oozing forces? Wow. I thought that was exclusive to Mo Vaughn's midsection, but I suppose the Green Monster is an appropriate place too. :)
But, Jay - Mo Vaughn had long been gone from the Boston Red Sox line-up, at that time...!
David Ortiz had taken over - and then some! ;)
Oh - I get it - you hate Vaughn too! Goodie! ;)
In retrospect though, two things are perplexing here: it is downright peculiar that, on the year that the Curse was finally lifted, this rumor about King's death surfaced (even if all too briefly. True, it was already odd to see Stephen King at every crucial game - as if HE was effectively making sure the Curse would finally die! His presence in the seats silenced the death rumor mill right away, of course (DUH!)
But to have rumors about his own demise surface just upon the onset of this entire magical run by the team...? Very peculiar indeed...!)
And the second thing is - why would "artichoke's" wife tell him such lies?
He looks very bad in the process there... :!
