Fine Waste Of Time...

Well, truth be blogged, that is exactly what it is all about here, on this fine blog of mine...!
Wasting one's time the luminous way!
And it cannot get any more luminous than when we are basking in the arts, knowledge and refinement of one's peers (and/or superiors, sure - sure...) while ogling them and their "fine works" at a museum (or twenty-nine museums) near you...!

May 27th was the DAY OF THE MUSEUMS (I know - sounds like a bad z-movie title or an episode of Dr. Who - but bear with it just a little while longer...!) and we indulged in it... We partook of it... We participated! Maybe that was the problem: we did and so did a whole lot of other peeps and, in the end, the bulk of the time wasted oh-so-very-well was wasted waiting in line, neverending queues, just to gain entrance into any one of them museums - and then one would feel as though we cannot waste too much of that time in there: not when there are twenty-eight others to visit before 6PM...!

Not that we truly wanted to visit them all on that single day - no.
FREE ADMISSION days are simply not the best idea to go in and truly enjoy the surroundings and art works that may be there, exposed for your ogling and voyeuristic pleasures.  You can only take all the time that you deem necessary -and truly enjoy it all, while simultaneously absorbing as much as humanly possible- when you go to a single site, for an entire day, it is not too crowded and you've PAID AN ADMISSION FEE FOR IT. Paying that fee, somehow, transforms the entire experience into something more noteworthy and, heck, more plain worthy too!  You don't want to rush your tour anymore - since there are not other sites waiting to be ransacked by your hungry scanning eyes - an since you did pay a price to get in, you want to prolong your stay and get all of your money's worth on that one and same site...! Art can only be truly appreciated if one takes one's time to observe it, decorticate it with your bare eye scrutiny, maybe with zoom-ins and such, if photos are allowed (which is doubtful, most of the time) and if the place is any tiny bit historical (and they all tend to be that, as well) and significant, then you want to immerse yourself of that sense of legacy, tradition and the passage of time itself!

Basically, you need to waste a considerable amount of TIME to appreciate TIME... and its very flow!
How poetic is that?

The DAY OF THE MUSEUMS is believed to have been a very bright idea that some curator had, one day - an idea to bring the people -the common people that is- back to the museums which were home to little (and big, sometimes) treasures, attracting the elite of society that worships such things - and collecting dust. An entire day of free admission for all would serve as the starting point to generate interest amongst the populace, too: as they'd get a preview of what the museum was all about, they'd most certainly want to come back once there would be an even bigger exhibit, a special program, something of envergure (excuse the French, again, but that curator was, I suspect, that of the Louvre, so it is fully warranted here...) and there would be ample time to mention and promote all of these during the exhaustive (due to the sheer number of people waiting in line there) Day of the Museums, which would effectively be the best plug day, like, ever...!

The curator's idea may have been bright in concept - but it simply isn't luminous in application.
For many are those who are disappointed by the free tour (they come out saying such things as "that was IT?!? Boy, am I glad we got in there FOR FREE - 'cause there's nothing to SEE there worth their regular price of ADMISSION!" and so forth) and those are certainly NOT coming back, no matter what is promised to be "coming up" next week, next month or whatever...!

It can all be blamed on the crowd factor too, perhaps: whenever there are too many peeps, the enjoyment is proportionally diminished...

All the more reason to stay home, on, say, a blog such as the lackadaisical one right here (heh-heh; two can have a self-plug day, right?)  and take aaaaaaaaall the tome in the world to enjoy the fine arts, the history, the refinement one's heart requires - at your own pace, without any annoyances around - probably with a bottle of wine too, if you want...!

That way, every day can be as rich, culturally speaking, as the over-rated "Museums Day" there...!

Enjoy!
;-)
